The belief that all men are created equal was a foundation of the Declaration of Independence, written in 1776. It is the belief that all American citizens were born equal and deserved the same opportunities as the other. No person born into a monarchy had a natural superiority to any person. This was written at the beginning of the War of independence against the British monarchy.
