you divide the combined rectangles at a meeting point of the two, leaving one longer than the other and the other possibly a square. you then measure the sides of the two shapes and multiply width and height for area. then you add all the side lengths for perimeter. You then combine the area of the two and combine the perimeter of the two. the two sums are the area and perimeter of the combined rectangles.
