What was the goal of the confederate forces? John brown
faust18 [17]

The goal of the Confederate forces was to obtain their independence from the North and continue using slavery.

During this time, the Southern states were focused on agriculture, while the Northern states were focused on industrialization. The South would have plantations where they would grow cash crops, such as indigo and tobacco. These cash crops would sell for a lot of money overseas, but they needed manpower in order to produce more. This is why they were so adamant about keeping slavery, which they felt the North would try to take away from them. With Abraham Lincoln winning the election, this only caused them to worry more.

This made the South secede, or rebel against the Union. They wanted to be independent from the Union and felt as if they were not being heard or listened to. They strongly believed that the Union, along with Abraham Lincoln, would try to abolish slavery, which would cause them to lose income.

Answer:

So it was basically to prevent him from accomplishing his planned reforms, which I guess would restrict their independence?

Explanation:

Gavrilo Princip was a member of the Black Hand. They didn't want to be part of the Austro-Hungarian empire or pay taxes to them. Princip had tuberculosis and knew he was going to pass soon. He did what he did to the Archduke as a final act of "patriotism" believing he would not live long enough to receive punishment.

During world war 1 it was a crime to criticize the president or the war effort. Would a court today find such a law as a constit
Lyrx [107]

Answer:

A court today would not find that to be constitutionally valid.

Explanation:

There is a multitude of laws that override the censorship of press, especially to criticize the president. When there are restrictions in free speech, citizens may feel as though they are being dis-empowered. The first amendment allows for free speech, and even if the sitting president feels that it may be harmful, they have no authority to stop free speech.
