Explanation:

The alimentary canal comprises the <em>mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, rectum and anus</em>. Digestion of starch takes place in the mouth, partially in the stomach, and the small intestine. Starch breaks down into sugar and sugar is broken down into glucose in the small intestine which is then released into the blood stream. Therefore the digestion of both starch and sugar takes place in the alimentary canal.
