Answer:

The probability that no one sits in the same seat on both days of that week is given by, P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=\frac{1}{e}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A certain class has 20 students, and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays in a classroom with exactly 20 seats. In a certain week, everyone in the class attend both days. On both days, the students choose their seats completely randomly (with one student per seat).

To find : The probability that no one sits in the same seat on both days of that week ?

Solution :

Let A_i be the i-th student sits on seat which he has been sitting on Monday.

According to question,

We have to calculate P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)

Applying inclusion exclusion formula,

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=1-P(\cap^{4}_{i=1}A_i)

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=1-P(A_1)+...+P(A_{20})-P(A_1\cap A_2)+...+P(A_{19}\cap A_{20})+P(A_1\cap A_2\cap A_3)+...+P(A_{18}\cap A_{19}\cap A_{20})....-P(A_1\cap A_2...\cap A_{20})

Using symmetry,

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=1-\sum^{20}_{k=1}(-1)^{k+1}\binom{20}{k}P(A_1\cap ...\cap A_k)

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=1-\sum^{20}_{k=1}(-1)^{k+1}\binom{20}{k}\frac{(20-k)!}{20!}

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=1+\sum^{20}_{k=1}(-1)^{k}\frac{1}{k!}

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=\sum^{20}_{k=0}(-1)^{k}\frac{1}{k!}

P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=\frac{1}{e}

Therefore, The probability that no one sits in the same seat on both days of that week is given by, P(\cap^{20}_{i=1}A_i^c)=\frac{1}{e}

Line a is parallel to line b. If the<br> measure of 7 is 114°, what is the<br> measure of 3?
vagabundo [1.1K]

Hey!

Angle 7 and angle 3 are <u>corresponding angles, </u>therefore they are equal. The measure of angle 3 is 114 degrees.

Hope this helps! :D

Identify the oblique asymptote of f(x) =
Aleks04 [339]
The numerator is a degree of 2, higher than the denominator's degree of 1, so there is a oblique (slant) asymptote, which is the quotient.

use long division to find the quotient:
                  x   +8
      _____________________
x-2 I  x²  +6x   -9
         x²   -2x
         ----------
                 8x   -9

you don't have to finish, because the remainder doesn't matter. the answer is y=x+8

Which equation represents a line which is perpendicular to the y-axis?
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

y = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

The y-axis and any lines that are parallel to it are vertical. Therefore, a line that would be perpendicular to the y-axis would need to be horizontal. All horizontal lines have a slope equal to 0 and are represented by the equation y = a constant, or a single number with no variables.

The only option that follows that format is y = 5, thus that is the answer.

Ionizing radiation is being given increasing attention as a method for preserving horticultural products. A study reports that 1
kolbaska11 [484]

Answer:

Yes, there is  enough evidence to support the claim that ionizing radiation is beneficial in terms of marketability.

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a hypothesis test for the difference between proportions.

The claim is that ionizing radiation is beneficial in terms of marketability.

Then, the null and alternative hypothesis are:

H_0: \pi_1-\pi_2=0\\\\H_a:\pi_1-\pi_2> 0

Being π1: the true proportion of treated bulbs that can be comercialized after 240 days, and π2: the true proportion of untreated bulbs that can be comercialized after 240 days.

The significance level is 0.05.

The sample 1, of size n1=180 has a proportion of p1=0.85.

p_1=X_1/n_1=153/180=0.85

The sample 2, of size n2=180 has a proportion of p2=0.65.

p_2=X_2/n_2=117/180=0.65

The difference between proportions is (p1-p2)=0.2.

p_d=p_1-p_2=0.85-0.65=0.2

The pooled proportion, needed to calculate the standard error, is:

p=\dfrac{X_1+X_2}{n_1+n_2}=\dfrac{153+117}{180+180}=\dfrac{270}{360}=0.75

The estimated standard error of the difference between means is computed using the formula:

s_{p1-p2}=\sqrt{\dfrac{p(1-p)}{n_1}+\dfrac{p(1-p)}{n_2}}=\sqrt{\dfrac{0.75*0.25}{180}+\dfrac{0.75*0.25}{180}}\\\\\\s_{M_d}=\sqrt{0.001+0.001}=\sqrt{0.002}=0.0456

Then, we can calculate the z-statistic as:

z=\dfrac{p_d-(\pi_1-\pi_2)}{s_{p1-p2}}=\dfrac{0.2-0}{0.0456}=\dfrac{0.2}{0.0456}=4.382

This test is a right-tailed test, so the P-value for this test is calculated as (using a z-table):

P-value=P(t>4.382)=0.000008

As the P-value (0.000008) is smaller than the significance level (0.05), the effect is significant.

The null hypothesis is rejected.

There is  enough evidence to support the claim that ionizing radiation is beneficial in terms of marketability.
