The Supreme Court's decision in Plessy v. Ferguson was unconstitutional because since segregation laws did not provide equal protections or liberties to non-whites, the ruling was not consistent with the 14th Amendment.

In Plessy v. Ferguson's case in 1896, America's Supreme Court established that as long as there was equality, racially separated facilities were not unconstitutional. According to the Court, segregation did not discriminate.

But actually, the separate facilities granted to African Americans were infrequently equal. Normally they were far from being equal, or were completely inexistent.

Distribution of education budget in Florida, for example, was extremely different depending on the race: whereas white people counted on a budget  of over 70 million dolars for their schools, libraries, and more, black people counted on a budget of less than 5 million. They teached and learned in churchs, huts, and shelters without bathrooms, water supply, desks or chalkboards.

This principle of "separate but equal" was only employed to reaffirm white majority supremacy over black minority, and was eventually abandoned in 1954.

Which text from "After Twenty Years" provides the best evidence that “Silky Bob” is surprised that his friend is now a policeman
rjkz [21]
Among the choices, the text from "After Twenty Years" that best provides evidence that "Silky Bob" was surprised that his friend is now a policeman is A. <span>"His hand was steady when he began to read, but it trembled a little by the time he had finished."

Two best friends, Bob and Jimmy, twenty years ago, have agreed to meet in front of a hardware store at exactly 10 pm. Bob was waiting for his friend Jimmy when a policeman approached him and asked what he was doing there. The policeman afterwards left. A man who introduced himself as Jimmy then approached Bob. However, while walking down the street, as light hit the other man's face, Bob realized that it wasn't his friend. The man then told him he was arrested and handed him a note. It was then that Bob realized that the policeman earlier was his friend Jimmy. Jimmy was unable to arrest his friend so instead, he asked a bystander to confront Bob. </span>

Write a paragraph describing the main conflict in the story and explaining how it demonstrates different cultural perspectives.
tigry1 [53]

The answer to your question is: (sample response)

The main conflict in the story is between the mother’s desire for obedience and the daughter’s desire for independence. It reveals contrasting cultural perspectives between the characters. The daughter’s independence is a reflection of growing up in the United States. As a result of living in America, she desires the freedom to make her own decisions. The mother, however, has values based on her Chinese heritage. She believes that children must obey their parents at all times. These differences lead to arguments between the mother and daughter over many years.
