A bill is introduced into the House of Representatives, where is it worked on by a committee (or, if additional work is needed, by a subcommittee too, which then returns it to the committee) and subsequently voted on, and approved, it is passed to the Senate, where it is voted on again. If it is approved by both, it is sent to the president, and if he (or she) signs it, it becomes a law.
There might not be an objective answer to this question, but I would argue that all members of the society benefit from the mixed economy.
Mixed economy, as opposed to command economy, provides people - all the people - with more freedom, and this is good for people's emotional well-being - having the possibility of making choices is beneficial to us.
On the other hand, mixed economy, unlike pure capitalism, provides people also with security and better public infrastructure, from which again, all people can benefit.
One such situation is when the situations are complex, for example economical and the media don't report on it because they fear people won't be able to follow it. Another situation is that often positive situations are not reported, since they "don't sell" as much.
Further, Media can sympathize with one side and be biased towards this side.
Finally, Media can not tackle some problems (human rights abuses far away) because they feel it won't sell as many papers.
