"Over the past few decades, researchers have observed declining numbers in two species of penguins native to the West Antarctic

peninsula. New evidence is pointing to a decline in their food supply as the primary cause for the recent drops in their numbers. These penguins feed on krill, small animals that grow and develop under ice masses. The graphs below show data related to two factors: atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels and Antarctic ice mass. The diagram of a generalized Antarctic food web illustrates the role of the penguins.

One very specific way that humans caused changes in the atmospheric CO2 levels is the fossil fuels that the humans are burning is causing an increase in the CO2 levels. Other ways humans are doing this is by driving cars, deforestation, and an increased industrialization that releases CO2 into the atmosphere.

Why do living things depend on diffusion?
mylen [45]
Living organisms obtain many of their requirements by diffusion. They also get rid of many of waste materials in this way. For example, Plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. This diffuses from the air into the leaves through the stomata. It does this because there is a lower concentration of carbon dioxide inside the leaf as the cells are using it up. Outside the leaf in the air, there is a higher concentration. Carbon dioxide molecules therefore diffuse into the leaf down this concentration gradient :)

Dominant allele are represent by who?
Arlecino [84]
the dominant allele is usually represented by a capital letter, while the recessive allele has a lowercase letter. Let's say that the gene for flamingo color is represented by the letter P. The pink allele is dominant, so it would get a capital P, but the purple allele is recessive, so it would get a lowercase p.
