Answer: Breaking covalent bonds in molecules results in the dissipating the energy of atoms held together in molecules.

Explanation: By way of introduction,

Covalent bonds are one of four types of chemical bonds. The other three are ionic bonds, metallic bonds and hydrogen bonds. Each bond type differs in the way atom share electrons. In covalent bonds, two atoms completely share one or more pairs of electrons. These bonds are quite strong.

Covalent bonds form between atoms when the total energy present in the newly formed molecule is lower than the energy present in each of the atoms alone. The lower energy when bonded results from the fact that atoms are more stable when their outer electron shells are full. Atoms can fill their outer shells by sharing electrons with other atoms though the formation of covalent bonds.

It is important to know that there is a symmetrical relationship between the amount of energy released during the formation of a covalent bond, the amount of energy needed to break the bond. Breaking covalent bonds requires energy, and covalent bond formation releases energy.

This energy is measured as heat using the units joules or calories or kilocalories.

The amount of energy released during molecule formation can be estimated by counting the number and types of bond in a molecule. For instances, a methane molecule has one carbon atom bound to four hydrogen atoms via four single carbon-hydrogen covalent bonds. Carbon-hydrogen bonds release 100 kcal/mole of energy when formed, so the total energy needed to break all the bonds in a methane molecule is 100 kcal x 4 or 400 kcal.

What role does the environment play in determining the favorable traits of a species
Ann [662]

Answer:

Survival of the fittest; nature "selects" the organisms best suited to their environment to survive and pass on traits. ... What role does the environment play in natural selection? Species adapt to fit their environment because a species environment is what selects for traits that are fit or less fit.

Energy expended from fidgeting is called __________. energy expended from fidgeting is called __________. non-exercise activity
9966 [12]
The answer is the non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Energy expended from fidgeting is called the non exercise activity thermogenesis (neat). Basal metabolic rate is the energy expended to support metabolism. Thermic effect of food (tef) is the energy expended for the digestion, absorption, and metabolism of nutrients.

How can food handlers avoid time temperature abuse?
Andru [333]

Make sure food is not left out for an excessive amount of time as this could cause it to enter the danger zone for temperature and allow bacteria to grow. To stay out of the temperature danger zone in the kitchen, make sure your refrigerators and freezers are set to the proper temperature.

Food is what?

 • Any material consumed as food provides nutrition for an organism.
 • Food comprises essential nutrients such carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals and is frequently generated from plants, animals, or fungi.
 • An organism consumes the substance, which is then absorbed by its cells to provide energy, support life, or stimulate growth.

What is temperature?

 • Temperature is a physical quantity that expresses how hot matter is, or as a measure of the average translational kinetic energy per atom or molecule in the system.
 • It is the detectable portion of the molar thermal energy of matter; a temperature difference allows heat transfer to occur, as energy flows from a hotter body to a colder body.

A tiltmeter is a volcanic monitoring tool that measures _____. A.vibrations and tremors in the ground B.smoke plumes C.ground sw
Nat2105 [25]
The correct option is C.
A tiltmeter is a very sensitive instrument used by geologists to detect very small changes in the vertical position or the ground structure movement during the process of volcanic monitoring. The device measures the tilt of the concerned land area. The device is also used to measure the reaction of dams to filling and to monitor landslides.
