The two strands of DNA that make up the double helix with corresponding positions on the two chains being composed of a pair of complementary bases are known as complementary strands.

Adenine always pairs with Thymine. Cytosine always pairs with Guanine.

In mRNA, the thymine is replaced by Uracil. Adenine pairs with Uracil for mRNA formation.
