Jagger was Pip's guardian and lawyer. He considered Drummle to be a 'spider' that illustrates his low regard and dislike towards him. He finds nothing compensatory about him and calls him "sulky, blotchy kind". However, he followed him with passion. He knew that Drummle is crude and will not be a good husband to Estella. <em>Jagger believed that Drummle would be an abusive husband to Estella due to his haughty and abrasive background. In fact, Drummle is the most hated character of the novel due to his indulgence in hostile actions and the criminal world. He, however, eventually marries her and beats her brutally that proves his point of Drummer being</em><em> </em><em>an abusive husband</em><em>.</em>
Jaggers nicknames him the Spider which obviously suggests a low regard of him. All know that Drummle is coarse and lives only in a more refined world because of his family's class and ranking. Jaggers knows he will not be a good husband to Estella.
