Logistics Solutions provides order fulfillment services for dot.com merchants. The company maintains warehouses that stock items

carried by its dot.com clients. When a client receives an order from a customer, the order is forwarded to Logistics Solutions, which pulls the item from storage, packs it, and ships it to the customer. The company uses a predetermined variable overhead rate based on direct labor-hours. In the most recent month, 115,000 items were shipped to customers using 3,800 direct labor-hours. The company incurred a total of $10,450 in variable overhead costs. According to the company’s standards, 0.04 direct labor-hours are required to fulfill an order for one item and the variable overhead rate is $2.80 per direct labor-hour. Required: 1. What is the standard labor-hours allowed (SH) to ship 115,000 items to customers? 2. What is the standard variable overhead cost allowed (SH × SR) to ship 115,000 items to customers? 3. What is the variable overhead spending variance? 4. What is the variable overhead rate variance and the variable overhead efficiency?

Answer:

1. Standard labour hours allowed

  = 0.04 hour x 115,000 units  = 4,600 hours

2. Standard variable overhead cost allowed

   = 4,600 hours x $2.80 = $12,880

3.  Variable overhead spending variance

= ( Standard rate x Actual hours) - Actual variable overhead cost

   = ($2.80 x 3,800 hours)                - $10,450

   =  $190(F)

4.  Variable overhead rate variance

= (Standard rate - Actual rate) x Actual hours worked

    = ($2.80 - $2.75)  x  3,800  hours

    =  $190(F)

    Variable overhead efficiency variance

= (Standard  hours - Actual hours) x Standard rate

    = (4,600 - 3,800)  x $2.80

    = $2240(F)

Explanation:

The standard labour hours allowed is calculated by multiplying the standard hours allowed per unit by the number of items shipped.

The standard variable overhead cost allowed is the product of             standard hours and standard rate.

Variable overhead spending variance is the difference the budgeted  variable overhead and actual variable overhead cost. Budgeted variable overhead cost is the product of standard variable overhead rate and                          actual hours.

Variable overhead efficiency variance is the difference between                  standard hours and actual hours multiplied by standard variable overhead rate.

Variable overhead rate variance is the difference between                  standard rate and actual rate multiplied by actual hours worked.

Pavel [41]

Answer:

B. 20,000

Explanation:

Standard Variable overhead rate = $6 per units / 2 direct labour hour

Standard Variable overhead rate = $3 per hour

Variable Overhead Spending Variance = Actual hours worked * (Actual overhead rate - Standard overhead rate)

Variable overhead spending variance = 160,000 * (3.125 -3)

Variable overhead spending variance = 160000*0.875

Variable overhead spending variance = 20,000

Christina purchased 500 shares of stock at a price of $62.30 a share and sold the shares for $64.25 each. She also received $738
Gnesinka [82]

Answer:

1.60 percent

Explanation:

exact real rate of return on this investment = interest rate - inflation rate

total revenue gotten by Christina = ( 500 × $ 64.25) + $ 738 = $ 32863

total money invested = 500 × $ 62.30 = $ 31150

her profit =  $ 32863 - $ 31150  = $ 1713

interest =  $ 1713 / $ 31150 = 0.054992 × 100 = 5.4992 %

exact interest rate = 5.4992 %  - 3.9% = 1.5992 approx 1.60 percent

Gennadij [26K]

Answer and Explanation:

The journal entry to record the flow of cost into department 3 is shown below

Work in Process - Department 3 $555,000

To Work in Process - Department 2  $555,000

(Being the flow of cost into department 3 is recorded)

For recording this we debited the work in process in department 3 as there is a flow and credited the work in process in department 2

The amount is came from

= $100,000 + $125,000 + $150,000 + $50,000 + $60,000 + $70,000

= $555,000
