An experiment was performed to compare the wear of two different laminated materials. Twelve pieces of material 1 were tested by

exposing each piece to a machine measuring wear. Ten pieces of material 2 were similarly tested. In each case, the depth of wear was observed. The samples of material 1 gave an average (coded) wear of 85 units with a sample standard deviation of 4, while the samples of material 2 gave an average of 81 with a sample standard deviation of 5. Can we conclude at the 0.05 level of significance that the abrasive wear of material 1 exceeds that of material 2 by more than two units? Assume the populations to be approximately normal with equal variances pdf

Answer:

At 0.05 level of significance, the abrasive wear of material 1 exceeds that of material 2 by more than 2 units

Step-by-step explanation:

We hypothesize that mean difference between abrasive wear of material 1 and material 2 is greater than 2.

So we write the null hypothesis H_0 : \mu_1 - \mu_2 >2,

and the alternative hypothesis H_1: \mu_1 - \mu_2 \leq 2.

We will find the T-score as well as the p-value. If the p-value is less than the level of significance, we will reject the null hypothesis, i.e. we will conclude that the abrasive wear of material 1 is less than that of material 2. Otherwise, we will accept the null hypothesis.

Since the variance is unknown and assumed to be equal, we will use the pooled variance

s_p^2 = \frac{(n_1-1)s_1^2 + (n_2-1)s_2^2}{n_1+n_2-2} = 20.05,

where n_1 = 12, n_2 =10, s_1 =4, s_2 = 5.

The mean of material 1 and material 2 are \mu_1 =85, \mu_2=81 respectively and mean difference d is equal to 4. The hypothesize difference d_0 is equal to 2.

To find the T-score, we use the following formula

T = \frac{d - d_0}{\sqrt{\frac{s_p^2}{n_1} + \frac{s_p^2}{n_2} }}

Substituting all the values into the T-score formula gives us T = 1.04, and the respective p-value is equal to 0.31. This means we have enough statistical evidence not to reject the null hypothesis, and at 5% significance level, the abrasive wear of material 1 exceeds that of material 2 by more than 2 units.

Jen buys sesame bagels and plain bagels. If the ratio of sesame to plain is 1:3 and Jen bought 2 dozen bagels, what percent of b
Ulleksa [173]

Answer:

The number of plain bagels are 18 and it is 75% of the total bagels .

The amount of salt in a plain bagel to that in a sesame bagel is 81.5% .

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula

Percentage = \frac{Part\ value\times 100}{Total\ value}

As given

Jen buys sesame bagels and plain bagels. If the ratio of sesame to plain is 1:3 and Jen bought 2 dozen bagels .

As one dozens contains 12 items .

Thus

Total number of bagels bought by Jen = 2 × 12

                                                                 = 24

Let us assume that the x be the scalar multiple of sesame bagels and plain bagels .

Number of sesame bagels = 1x

Number of plain bagels = 3x

Than the equation becomes

x + 3x = 24

4x = 24

x = \frac{24}{4}

x = 6

Thus

Number of plain bagels = 3 × 6

                                        = 18

Part value = 18

Total value = 24

Putting all the values in the formula

Percentage = \frac{18\times 100}{24}

Percentage = \frac{1800}{24}

Percentage = 75 %

Therefore the number of plain bagels are 18 and it is 75% of the total bagels  .

As given

Suppose each plain bagel has 0.53 gram of salt, and each sesame bagel has 0.65 gram.

Part value = 0.53 grams

Total value = 0.65 grams

Putting all the values in the formula

Percentage = \frac{0.53\times 100}{0.65}

Percentage = \frac{5300}{65}

Percentage = 81.5 %

Therefore the amount of salt in a plain bagel to that in a sesame bagel is 81.5% .

Rearrange the equation algebraically to solve for the unknown quantity.
timofeeve [1]

Given:

Consider the given equation is

P=2L+2W

To find:

The solution of the equation for l.

Solution:

We have,

P=2L+2W

Substract 2W from both sides.

P-2W=2L+2W-2W

P-2W=2L

Divide both sides by 2.

\dfrac{P-2W}{2}=\dfrac{2L}{2}

\dfrac{P-2W}{2}=L

L=\dfrac{P-2W}{2}

Therefore, the correct option is 3.

If a roof is 24 feet high and if you leaned a 26 foot ladder against the side of a building how far away from the building is th
mariarad [96]

Answer: 35.4 feet.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data:

Height of the roof = 24 feet

Height of the ladder = 26 foot

Solution:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

a = 24

b = 26

c^2 = 24^2 + 26^2

c = √576 + 676

c = √1252

c = 35.4 feet

The foot of the ladder is 35.4 foot away from the top of the ladder.
