This question has two parts. First, answer Part A. Then, answer Part B. Part A What is a central idea of this passage? American

Gothic represents Grant Wood's version of life in medieval times. American Gothic is a cartoon-like joke. American Gothic represents Grand Wood's personal view of midwesterners. American Gothic is a political statement. Question 2 Part B Select the one sentence that reveals the most about the central idea in Part A. “Some of these take-offs are simply created to make people smile.” “If his intention had been to mock and embarrass the people of the Midwest, then he would have also been mocking his own family and himself.” “The irony is that the original painting itself may have been making more of a comment on society than many observers realize.” “Gothic design is usually associated with a much more elaborate style of architecture than was ordinarily found in small midwestern towns of the 1930s.” “American Gothic is one of the most mimicked of all American paintings.”

<u>Answer to Part A:</u> American Gothic represents Grant Wood's personal view of midwesterners.

The speaker in the text intends to defend the meaning of the painting from claims of its mocking depictions of midwesterners. It is stated a the painting had a deeper meaning about society, one that goes beyond the common observer's understaing.

The rest of the options are not the text's central idea since:

  • The atmosphere of the painting does not revolve around medieval times, since that era ended in the 15th century. The figures in the painting represent americans, nation that was founded much later in time.
  • In the text, it is not considered that the painting is a joke - quite the contrary -. The counter-argument to this is supported by the speaker.
  • There are no political parties involved in this context, which denies the fact that the painting is a political statement.

<u>Answer to Part B:</u> "The irony is that the original painting itself may have been making more of a comment on society than many observers realize".

This statement supports the idea that beyond the observer's judgement on the depiction of the characters in the painting, the real meaning of this work might comprise the painter's personal view on the society being disputed over, the midwesterns.

Why might an author include dialect in a story? check all that apply. to allude to a character’s regional background to describe
zloy xaker [14]
An author includes dialect in a story to:
- <span>to allude to a character’s regional background
- to add to the cultural context of a story’s setting
- to allude to a character’s social background
- to create a more genuine dialogue between characters

"</span><span>to describe what a particular setting looks like" is not included since it mainly talks about the setting of the story which is not directly related to the dialect they will be using.</span>

Put legacy and eaves in a single sentence (simple sentence)
Schach [20]
Before I given an example of a sample sentence showing both words, let us dissect the meaning of each word first. The definitions/ synonyms are as follows:

Legacy- inheritance, heritage, birthright, bequest
Eaves- the roof’s lower border which overhangs the wall or a projecting edge (as of a hill)

Sample Simple Sentence: Maria was already struggling on the edge and still thinking about her legacy.

<span>(It’s rather a challenge to create a sentence using these words which could make a lot of sense, but that’s the best I could pull off.) Hope that helps :)</span>

In chapters 34 and 35, Tom makes lots of elaborate plans to get Jim free. From where has he gotten many of his ideas? Use eviden
My name is Ann [436]

In chapters 34 and 35, Tom makes a lot of complicated plans to free Jim in order to make it more fun instead of just lifting the bed and removing  the chain which would be easier, such as for example to saw the leg of the bed where Jim's chained; or to saw Jim´s leg even though he later decides that there´s no time for this; or he even thinks of getting a pen in order to mark on Jim´s shirt the number of days he was chained. All these ideas come from literature and more specifically from adventure books that Tom has read. This is confirmed by Tom's question to Huck " <em>Why, hain't you ever read any book at all? Baron Trenck, nor Casanova, nor Benvenuto Chelleeny, nor Henri IV, nor none of them heroes?</em>". Tom also keeps repeating the phrase "<em>That's what they all do</em>" which demonstrates once again that he bases his escape plans on famous escapes he has read about in books. Later, Tom himself reassures Huck that he knows all about escapes because he has read about them in books (<em>"...I've read all the books that give any information about these things"</em>).
