"Heart of Darkness" describes the journey of adventurer Charles Marlow, who, as captain of a steamboat, travels to the Belgian Congo in search of the mysterious Kerk.
His voyage is accompanied by almost apocalyptic images of the colonial savagery of Belgians (and other whites) who systematically looted and destroyed Africa at the time.
The book is certainly not only a critique of colonialism, but also a study of the morality and nature of evil, a treatise on universal human stupidity, but also a great psychological novel that gives a striking picture of the main character on a journey that takes him through the atmosphere of wild primordial darkness to the "heart of darkness" in the jungles of the Belgian Congo.
