Because when we devide both sides by a negative number the more than or less than signs reverse so in first case :
- 7y > 161 ( \div  - 7) \\ y <  - 23
while in second case :
7y >  - 161( \div 7) \\ y  >  - 23

a right triangle has a leg length of 14 yards and a hypotenuse of length 43 yards. Find the length of the other leg. Provide an
Makovka662 [10]

By applying the Pythagorean theorem, we will find that the length of the other leg of the right triangle is 40.7 yards.

If for right triangle we define A and B as the length of the two legs, and H as the length of the hypotenuse, the Pythagorean theorem says that:

A^2 + B^2 = H^2

Here we know that:

A = 14 yd

H = 43 yd

And we want to find the other leg, then we can replace that in the equation to get:

(14yd)^2 + B^2 = (43yd)^2

B = √( (43yd)^2 - (14yd)^2) = 40.7 yd

So the other leg length is 40.7 yards.

Rita will rent a car for the weekend. She can choose one of two plans. The first plan has no initial fee but costs $0.90 per mil
Artemon [7]

Let M = #miles driven

Plan 1:   .50M + 70  = total cost

Plan 2    .70M = total cost

To know how far she would drive to have an equal cost for either plan just set the equations equal to each other

.70M = .50M + 70

subtract .50M from both sides

.20M = 70

M = 70/.20 = 350 miles

Check the answser:

Plan 1:  .50(350) + 70 = 175 + 70 = $245

Plan 2:  .7(350) = $245

they are equal so our answer checks as correct
