So Cortes and his group laned along the Peninsula of Mexico, where the Aztects lived. The Aztects were a very advanced, strong society of people, that controlled most of Mexico. Well Cortes and his party approached them differently. They had a strong sense of supremacy, and intended to convert the natives into christianity. Their ministering methods were pretty bad, if I do say so myself. The Spanierds gathered all the Natives together, and started shouting the gospel at them. The Aztects of course did not understand their language. They started getting defensive, and trying to communicate. The Spanierds took this as a sign that they were trying to hurt or kill them, and they decided that whoever did not fall on their knees and repent, would die. pretty harsh way of teaching the gospel. The Spanierds assumed they were rejecting God because the Aztects were getting mad, and Cortes had ervyone killed. He later took what they had, and founded it into New Spain.

Why would common Europeans celebrate exploration and colonization?
miss Akunina [59]

Answer:

They earned money from colonization, so it mainly became a battle of how rich they were. And then the exploration part pretty much meant that they could claim 'new' land (that was already pretty much discovered by Native Americans) and make even more money, along with having power in the New World.
