Dante's Canto IV is dedicated to the Limbo or the "House of Souls." Souls are prevented to enter heaven for a lack of Baptism. To Dante, is the first circle of Hell. The punishment is this part is that the soul is deprived of the presence of God. There you can find the souls of children. There is also a section for adults that could not access Christian beliefs because they were nor presented with this opportunity in their lifetime.
