Another positive thing of owning a Pacific island is that the US can have a navy base there, as the base in Guam that is located in Apra Harbor. This base is home of Commander Submarine Squadron 15.

Another good reason for having touristic islands is that they can serve as a touristic place where companies can build hotel, resorts, and attractions that generate money.
