It is incorrect to state that Columbus discovered the Americas because he never set foot in North America. During four separate trips that started in 1492, Columbus landed in on various Caribbean islands as well on the later called Hispaniola. He explored Central and South America but didn’t reach North America, which by the way, was inhabited by Native Americans.

The US policy did not accept negotiations and demanded the cession of the territories, which is very objectionable which left the Mexican government without choice, they had to have friendly relations or resort to war. Mexico never declared war against the US it simply defended it’s territory’s integrity.

All of this demonstrates how the US policy was forcing Mexico to go to war for simply defending its territory against an invasion.
