From Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
timama [110]

The best summary of paragraph 2 is: "Gregor knows by the reality surrounding him that he has become a bug" (C).

Paragraph 2 is a description of the character's surroundings.

Through Gregor Samsa's eyes, the reader is given a look around the bedroom as Samsa is looking around him to try to find an anchor to reality: "It wasn't a dream;" "a proper human room." His reasoning is probably that if this metamorphosis was all a dream, his room would not look exactly like it was in real life. Yet, because the depiction of the room is so precise, with many details (like the textile samples on the table and the very specific description of the magazine cut-out), Samsa reaches the conclusion that this might be real.

1. Read this paragraph about a college student who is moving into a new apartment:
Ann [662]
I flew up the stairs to my new apartment, opened the door and skipped over the threshold. I examined the room which looked sufficient and felt generous. Excited to get a better view of the surrounding neighborhood, I threw open the windows and was met with a wonderful smell, freshly baked bread. Living next to a bakery would really be amazing. As I sank into the recycled chair in the middle of the room, I wondered what life away from home would be like. I was ready to see what would come next.

Lizzie has 75 cents in her pocket. Jessica has 48 cents. How much more money does Lizzie have then Jessica
antiseptic1488 [7]

Answer:

27 cents

Explanation:

One way to solve this problem is to use an algebraic equation. Since the question is asking for the difference use subtraction, then set up the equation like 75-48=x, where x is the difference. So the answer is 27 cents. To check you can add 27 back to 48; you should get 75, which proves 27 is the correct answer.
