Mao Zedong merged smaller farms in larger "factory" farms. That went even further with creations of people communes where everything was shared between the people of one community. Effects of this were the opposite of what Mao hoped for - food production dropped, and that combined with extreme weather, led to great famine and death of about 20 million people.
