x + y = 16, and x - y = 12. Get x by itself. Subtract y from both sides in the 1st equation to get x = 16 - y. Add y to both sides in the 2nd equation to get x = 12 + y. Put the parts together. 16-y=12+y. Add y to both sides to get 16 = 12 + 2y. Subtract 12 to get 4 = 2y. Divide both sides by 2 to get y = 2. Replace it with the 1st equation to get X + 2 = 16. Subtract 2 from both sides to get X = 14.

State the open intervals over which the function is (a) increasing, (b) decreasing or (c) constant
ipn [44]

Answer:

a. [-3, 4]

b. (-inf, -3]

c. [4, inf)

Step-by-step explanation:

Our intervals will represent the x-values

We know that since there's an arrow pointing to the left of the line that it goes on infinitely

Same thing when the arrow is going to the right

Then we can just looking at the x-values on the graph for the intervals where it starts and stops

Hope this helps

Best of luck

Jesselyn made 6 muffins. She used 3/8 teaspoon of baking powder for each muffin. How much baking powder did Jesselyn use for all
bezimeni [28]

Answer:

C

Step-by-step explanation:

Multiply the number of muffins by how much baking powder is in each muffin. That's read as 6/1 × 3/8 which equals 18/8.

Their is a rectangle that has measurements in inches. If the width is 7/8 of an inch and the height is 2/3 of an inch, what is t
Alex Ar [27]

Answer:

Area of a rectangle = 7/12 of an inch

Step-by-step explanation

Area of a rectangle = Length × width

In this case, the length is represented by height

Height = 2/3 of an inch

Width = 7/8 of an inch

Area of a rectangle = Length × width

= 2/3 × 7/8

= (2 * 7) / (3 * 8)

= 14 / 24

= 7 / 12

Area of a rectangle = 7/12 of an inch

Again ... Commute times in the U.S. are heavily skewed to the right. We select a random sample of 500 people from the 2000 U.S.
VladimirAG [237]

Answer:

We conclude that the mean commute time in the U.S. is less than half an hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a random sample of 500 people from the 2000 U.S. Census is selected who reported a non-zero commute time.

In this sample the mean commute time is 27.6 minutes with a standard deviation of 19.6 minutes.

Let \mu = <u><em>mean commute time in the U.S..</em></u>

So, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : \mu \geq 30 minutes      {means that the mean commute time in the U.S. is more than or equal to half an hour}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : \mu < 30 minutes     {means that the mean commute time in the U.S. is less than half an hour}

The test statistics that would be used here <u>One-sample t-test statistics</u> as we don't know about population standard deviation;

                           T.S. =  \frac{\bar X-\mu}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n} } }  ~ t_n_-_1

where, \bar X = sample mean commute time = 27.6 minutes

            s = sample standard deviation = 19.6 minutes

            n = sample of people from the 2000 U.S. Census = 500

So, <u><em>the test statistics</em></u>  =  \frac{27.6 -30}{\frac{19.6}{\sqrt{500} } }  ~ t_4_9_9

                                       =  -2.738

The value of t test statistic is -2.738.

Since, in the question we are not given with the level of significance so we assume it to be 5%. <u>Now, at 5% significance level the t table gives critical values of -1.645 at 499 degree of freedom for left-tailed test.</u>

Since our test statistic is less than the critical value of t as -2.378 < -1.645, so we have sufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis as it will fall in the rejection region due to which <u>we reject our null hypothesis.</u>

Therefore, we conclude that the mean commute time in the U.S. is less than half an hour.
