He had a great contribution for Jewish study. He ensured the scholarship for Jewish even after the fall of Jerusalem to the Roman in 70 C E. He is known establishing a school for the Rabbis. In 68 C E the Jerusalem was invaded by the General Vespasian and the took control. At that time the city was controlled by the Zealots, people who were ready to adopt rather that surrendering to the Roman. Ben Zakkai was one of them and he faked his death to come out of the city. He was taken to the Vespasian and he told Vespasian is going to be the emperor of the city.

After telling him that, Ben Zakkai demanded a piece of land for him to start a small school where he can study Torah.

The prophecy became true in one year and Vespasian became the emperor in one year. Soon he kept his promise and allot land for Ben Zakkai in Yavneh. Then Ben Zakkai started the school for rabbis.
