Parthenon was the centre of the Greek city-state of Athens. It was constructed in 5th century B.C. It was a symbol of wealth and power of Athens. It was the largest temple on Greek mainland.  

Parthenon pillar served as the city treasury  and treasury of the Delian league. In 6th century it was converted into a church dedicated to virgin Mary.

Columns, crepidom, pediment and entablature are some elements of the classical architecture visible in the Parthenon.
