Question:

The second of two numbers is 4 times the first. Their sum is 45. Find the numbers

Answer:

The two numbers are 9 and 36

Solution:

Let the two numbers be "x" and "y"

Let "x" be the first number and "y" be the second number

Given that the sum of numbers is 45

x + y = 45 ------- eqn 1

Also, given that, second of two numbers is 4 times the first

second number = 4 times the first

y = 4x ------- eqn 2

Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 1

x + 4x = 45

5x = 45

x = 9

Substitute x = 9 in eqn 2

y = 4(9)

y = 36

Thus the two numbers are 9 and 36

Use long division.

                                     y - 1
         -------------------------------
y³+1  | y⁴  - y³  + 2y²  + y  - 1
          y⁴                    + y
         -------------------------------
               - y³  + 2y²         - 1
               - y³                    - 1
              ---------------------------
                         2y²

Answer:  y - 1 + 2y2 ÷ y³+1

Note:
The correct answer should be written with parenthesis, as y - 1 + y²/(y³+1) in order to avoid ambiguity.

If you reflect any shape across the x-axis and then rotate it 90° clockwise about the origin, do you get the same result as if y
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

Yes, reflecting a shape across the x-axis and then rotating it 90° clockwise about the origin gives the same results as reflecting it across the y-axis followed by rotating it 90° counterclockwise about the origin. This means these two sequences of transformations are equivalent.

Fill in the blank to make the two fractions equivalent.
Oksana_A [137]

Answer:

42 should be in the blank.

Step-by-step explanation:

If you multiply 7/8 by 6, watch what happens...

7/8 *6 = 42/48

The denominators are the same, which shows how the equations are probably equal.

I know it might seem confusing because I'm not great at explaining, but I hope it helps! Have an awesome day c:
