Enlightenment is the name we give to a set of philosophical works and scientific research, developed in Europe from the 17th century. A period in which the continent was undergoing a remarkable cultural and scientific renewal. At the same time, scientific innovations were emerging in virtually every area of human activity. However, one of the most important aspects of Enlightenment thought was the idea that all humans born equal, and with inalienable rights. Plus, they had the right to share their opinions, to be heard and to speak. That's ideas were well received in the colonies which were under European dominance at that time. The possibility to, for the first time, talk about what they were thinking, and most importantly, about what they didn't agree.
