Confucians believe that a civilized society would bring order and stability. During the Han Dynasty's rule, Confucianism became an official ideology, and to achieve its goals, people had to learn the values of a unified society: respect, loyalty, and embracing the place the person was in.

Daoists believed that to have order and stability one must embrace nature's flow and behavior. Daoists believed in a non-action state (<em>wu-wei</em>) in which a person should not react to their desires. To obtain order and stability a person must live and embrace nature's harmony and shape themselves as nature.
