The two events that caused Americans to become disillusioned with the federal government during the first half of the 70s are: The failure of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal of the early 1970s. >>>The Water gate scandal was a political scandal that took place in the U.S. in the year of 1970s. It was followed by a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters (in Washington, D.C.,)at the Watergate Office Complex in 1972. The administration of Pres. Richard Nixon tried to conceal its involvement, however, the conspiracy was unraveled and was investigated by the United States’ Congress, the later’s resistance soon led to a constitutional crisis.

How were northern lawmakers convinced to allow Missouri into the union as a slave state under the Missouri Compromise?
12345 [234]
The northern lawmakers needed the state to join the union instead of the confederacy, because if they joined the confederacy, the Union would be weaker. They got the Missouri on their side by allowing it to hold slaves (but that could easily be overturned, so getting the state was more of a priority than having slavery or not)

hope this helps
