The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820. The Compromise aimed to regulate slavery in the western states. The Compromise created the 36/30 parallel which meant that slavery was forbidden in Louisiana and in any territory that was once a part of the Louisiana Purchase and also forbidden anywhere north of the created parallel.

The Compromise was only repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854.
