In 'Oliver twist', Mr. bumble meets a mysterious man at the "public house."

Explanation:

Mr. Bumble is one of the character in the novel 'Oliver Twist' authored by the well known writer Charles Dickens. There comes an incident in the novel when Mr. Bumble have a fight with his wife, Mrs. Corney.

Due to her wife's wicked temper Mr. Bumble decides to go to a public house to drown his sorrow and frustration. There he meets a man who seemed quite mysterious, and who asks him for information regarding Oliver Twist's birth. The man says his name was Monks. Later, Mr. Bumble tells the man that his wife can provide him the necessary information in return of money.
