vazorg [7]

This question is incomplete. Here is the complete question:

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide

Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;

And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,

And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

—"Sea Fever,”

John Masefield

Read the excerpt from “Sea Fever.” Then, use the drop-down menus to answer the questions.

1) Identify the sound device shown in boldface in the poem.

A.meter

B.onomatopoeia

C.alliteration

2) Identify the mood that has been created by the way this stanza sounds.

A.wistful

B.joyful

C.angry

Answer:

The correct answers are:

1) C

2) A

Explanation:

Let's start by clarifying what alliteration is.

It is a literary device that consists of repeating a variety of the same or similar sounds within a text, hence it is considered a figure of diction due to the effect it produces. Now, the consequent repetition of a sound must occur in the same phrase or word, in this case: windy.

On the other hand we must identify the mood of these lines, and we must say that it is wistful since the speaker is longing to return to the sea, he can even hear its call.

Which excerpts from “two kinds” are examples of internal conflict?
Kisachek [45]

Answer:

The correct answers are options three and five.

In literature, an internal conflict is a psychological struggle in a character's mind, which adds suspense to the plot. In excerpt three, the girl has a mental battle because she sees herself ordinary and ugly. In passage five, the narrator has an internal conflict in which she does not want to be different from other children, so she decides not to become a very good pianist, even when she finds it easy to learn.he excerpts from "Two Kinds" which are examples of internal conflict are:

"before going to bed that night, i looked in the mirror above the bathroom sink and when i saw only my face staring back—and that it would always be this ordinary face—i began to cry. Such a sad, ugly girl! I made high-pitched noises like a crazed animal, trying to scratch out the face in the mirror."

"so maybe i never really gave myself a fair chance. I did pick up the basics pretty quickly, and i might have become a good pianist at that young age. But i was so determined not to try, not to be anybody different that i learned to play”

The story “Two Kinds” reflects on the relation of a mother and her daughter who had been brought up in different cultures. Suyuan, Jing-mei's mother wanted her to become child prodigy of America. Suyuan tests her daughter in different activities restlessly. She gives Jing-mei piano lessons too. Jing-mei too tries hard but fails. She becomes upset as she will be the reason for her mother's disappointment. Later, Jing-mei wants everyone and her mother to accept her as she. Her mother was not ready to accept her as she is in reality. There arises many cases in which the characters undergoes conflict with other characters and with themselves as well.
