Excerpt from Wichita Mourning David Matherne Pipe organs—dusty and tarnished— Bellowed the ancient song, As movers carried the p

ews For one last time. Frozen branches—heavy with ice arms— Couldn’t perform their dance, As workmen shuffled inside The worn-out floors. Sally Richards—broken and mourning— Watched while her father left, As painters brought in their cans For the first time. Stained-glass windows—buckled and broken— Surveyed commotion’s cause As commerce won in the end Yet one more time. Reverend Richards—feeble and finished— Cried as his exit was lost On Christians who worshiped the dime; A change of the times. Imagine you are presenting this poem and need a visual aid to accompany your presentation. The visual aid should relate to the theme of the poem, the loss and destruction of this beautiful church. Which visual aid would be MOST appropriate? A) a road map of Wichita B) pictures showing the businesses and stores of Wichita C) a list of workers needed for the renovation of the building D) original floorplans and pictures of the church

Answer:

D) original floorplans and pictures of the church

Explanation:

The main idea of this poem is destruction of a Wichita church. The building itself will be renovated and repainted and it will serve another purpose as the commercial object.

The poem describes the condition the church is now in, workers who move things out of the church and bring their work material and an old priest whose service in this church came to an end.

Church is transfered into a construction site and, as such, one can not grasp on the church's earlier beauty.

The best complement to the author's current despription of the church would be some pictures, footage and original floorplans to show how the church changed and decayed over time.

Read the sentence below and use context clues to determine the meaning of the word replica: This replica of the ship, the U.S.S.
vodka [1.7K]

Answer:

B, a copy or duplicate.

Explanation:

It isn't the actual ship so it can't be the original version because the original ship would be big not small. It's a ship so it can't be a companion, and no one is presenting anything so it's definitely not an assisted presentation.
