"For me, a school uniform levels the playing field," explained Hank. "In what ways?" asked Maddie. "No one gets hung up on fashion," Hank continued, "and we can just be who we are. Nobody tries to impress anyone. "That's silly!" exclaimed Maddie. "Clothes dont make us who we are, Hank. That is simply not true." "Well," said Hank "they let us know whether or not our parents allow us to spend a ton of money on fashion or"- "Maybe" Maddie interrupted, "but I still think you're wrong. It doesn't take a lot of money to dress in your own style." "Cant you show your own style in what you wear after school or on the weekends?" asked Hank, shrugging his shoulders. Maddie snapped "That's not the point, don't i have a right to choose my own clothes?" "I don't know about that," Hank replied with a sigh, lets continue this debate over lunch, Maddie.

In "out of place," how has ekran's relationship with michelle affected him? discuss interactions between the two characters and
kow [346]
Michelle affected Ekran because she made him feel safe in the place he was in. She would do this my not being so afraid of Ekran like she was, she would “analyze” his patterns and just play along with his games and his stories. When Michelle started this job, she was so scared of some of the patients including Ekran.

But as she worked she realized they kind of are having the same experience while they are at the center, she was mistrusted just like he was so she got to know him more. As she got used to him he started to feel safe with her and he started trusting her. In the beginning of the story he was told to take a shower but he didn’t want to until Michelle came along and because he trusted her he did what she asked. Ekran had many things that he said but nobody wanted to play along because they didn’t care, but Michelle did. Ekran would talk most about his guitar and would say “he sold my guitar” and instead of not caring she would say, “Yes he did, but he did it because he cared about you, that’s why he did it.”

What does “separate, but equal” mean, and why is it important in the text Plessy v. Furguson?
Virty [35]

Answer: "Separate, but equal" meant that African Americans could not use vehicles or go to the same places as the white people, but they would be the same. This is important in the Plessy v. Ferguson case because Plessy was a one-eighth black man and when the conductor asked him if he was a black man, he said "Yes". Due to the fact that he claimed he was a black man, he was told to get off, but refused to do so. Even if he was one-eight black, it didn't matter to the conductor because Plessy was still somewhat black. Since Plessy was black, he was not technically allowed to ride on the "White Only" train because they were supposed to be segregated. The effect of Plessy's decision in the end was that segregation became law and it spread over America like wildfire.
