A Farewell to Arms is a novel that is primarily concerned with war. However, the reactions to the war, both from the authors and from the characters, vary greatly. Most of the characters in the novel are ambivalent about the war. They either care very little about it, they are angry about the destruction or doubtful about the things they will obtain if they win. However, there are some characters that support the war. These characters are naive, not very clever or too immature. This indicates that Hemingway did not strongly support the war either.

Against this backdrop of war, Hemingway discusses the idea of love. Particularly, "true love." Henry and Catherine are able to escape the war, and find solace, in each other. The love, however, takes on the role of distraction and of life-giving power. Finally, it also takes on the role of refuge and salvation, even if just a temporary one.

The Nuremberg Trials were held as a series of 13 studies that were conducted in the Nuremberg city upon the orders of Adolf Hitler in the years 1945.

This conclusive result of these trials was that a nation is not capable of giving attention to individuals as an emergency situation has struck the nation.

As a result, neither the national government nor any leader will be responsible for the actions of an individual during a war crisis.

Hence, the correct option is B that Nuremberg Trials established the principle that individuals are accountable for their actions even during time of war.

Kamila [148]

Answer:

The correct answer is B. Providing weapons to rebels fighting to overthrow a foreign communist government would be more likely under the Reagan Doctrine that under the foreign policy of detente.

Explanation:

The Reagan Doctrine was a Cold War foreign policy doctrine of President Ronald Reagan, by which the United States sought to diminish the international influence of Communists. Although the doctrine was followed for less than a decade, it was at the heart of US foreign policy from the early 1980s until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

In practice, the doctrine meant US assistance to anti-communist guerrilla and resistance movements in countries supported by the Soviet Union in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Its purpose was to reduce the influence of the Soviet Union and to create the conditions for capitalism and democratic governance. For example, support was given to Contra-guerrillas in Nicaragua and Islamist Mujahden-guerrillas in Afghanistan.
