Despite my mother’s allergies, I begged every year on my birthday for a kitten. I had already decided on a name and knew exactly

what coloring I wanted Butterscotch to have—yellow and brown. In my mind, she would be the most special cat, and we would have a bond that would help my mom overcome the puffy eyes and sneezing that Butterscotch would make her have. On my seventh birthday, my wish came true, and Butterscotch became mine. Two weeks later, however, we took a very sick kitten to the veterinarian and learned she had distemper, a contagious disease that can cause death in animals. Butterscotch didn’t make it, but since then I have dedicated my future to making sure all animals get this life-saving vaccination.

Answer:

The correct answer is A: emotion

Explanation:

In this passage, the speaker uses emotion to describe what happened with his kitten, called Butterscotch. This type of rhetorical appeal is called pathos and it is based on the audience's emotions.

The speaker tries to appeal to the audience to vaccinate their pets, in order to save their lives from lethal and contagious diseases. Therefore, he tells a sad story about his kitten and highlights the importance of the vaccination.
