In  the year 1895 the Cone family  opened a large cotton mill in the lands that the cone brothers had accuired in the years prior around greensbro; managing a few years later to expand and open a second location white oak mill, one that would become the largest cotton manufacturer of the south and the world at given time. Estimative numbers say that the factories consumed  thirty-five million pounds of cotton yearly and produced more than seventy-five million yards of cloth with it.

The Cone brothers bought land and they built textile mills that spun out denim, flannel and corduroy. They also turned the city Greensboro into a major manufacturing city.
