Fluent in many languages ​​and well versed in universal literature, she was greatly impaired in her training because the higher learning institutions were closed to women in her time.  However, she knew how to use her powerful intelligence by giving private lessons in her own home, essentially developing a series of public lectures that wealthy Boston men and women paid to attend.

Margaret Fuller, never lived in Brook Farm, though she visited frequently. Brook Farm was an agricultural institute inspired by transcendentalism and preached that members share the tasks equally, so that everyone would have a share in profits and free time.
