The dictionary definition for the word "develop" is: grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or elaborate.  It also means: start to exist, experience, or possess.

Explanation:

<em>To go into further detail, </em>If someone is developing, they are usually growing, learning, and changing. For example, if a character in a story absolutely hates vegetables, but towards they end of the story they begin to understand why vegetables are important, we can say the character developed because they learned and changed from their experiences. When someone uses "develop(ing)" to describe an object, they are usually describing the physical aspect of the object. For example, if someone says "The little sprout developed into a tall beanstalk." this means that the sprout grew taller in size.
