Mathematics

Answer:

The length of the part of the track that is not straight is 656.172ft

Step-by-step explanation:

1. The total distance around the track indicates you the distance that includes the straight sections and the sections that are not straight, the total distance is 1,312.34feet.

2. The running track has two straight sections that are each 328.084feet long, so, you need to subtract the lenght of the two sections from the total to know the part of the track that is not straight, that is:

Section not straight = Total distance - 2*(Section straight)

Section not straight = 1,312.34ft - 2*(328.084ft)

Section not straight = 1,312.34ft - 656.168ft

Section not straight = 656.172ft

Graph 2x-3y =18 using 4 points
wlad13 [49]
2x - 3y = 18
First, you want to isolate y.
You do this by firstly subtracting 2x from both sides.
-3y = 18 - 2x
Then you divide both sides by -3.
y = (18 - 2x)/3
You now have your function. With this you can plug in x variables to find points. I’m going to use the variables: 0, 8, -2, and 1
If x = 0 : (18 - 2 * 0)/3 = (18 - 0)/3 = 18/3 = 6
First point: (0, 6)
If x = 8 : (18 - 2 * 8)/3 = (18 - 16)/3 = 3/3 = 1
Second point: (8, 1)
If x = -2 : (18 - 2 * -2)/3 = (18 + 4)/3 = 22/3
Third point: ( -2, 22/3)
Note: to make that easier to plot, change the fraction into a mixed number- so it would be 7 and 1/3
If x = 1 : (18 - 2 * 1)/3 = (18 - 2)/3 = 16/3
Fourth point: (1, 16/3)
Note: the mixed number would be 5 and 1/3
You can choose whatever x variables you want. I just choose some that would result in a whole number or a number that wouldn’t be too large - which can make it difficult to plot sometimes. For the future, some good go-to x variables are just -1, 0, 1, and 2. Just cause they’re easy numbers.
