In the presidential election of 1912, the Republican National Convention celebrated in Chicago in June 1912 resulted in the division of the members of the Republican Party. William Taft wanted the reelection, but Franklin D. Roosevelt had a lot of support from the base of its party. A third candidate raised his hand for the nomination, Wisconsin Senator Robert M. La Follette. This split between the members of the Republican Party benefited Democratic candidate Woodrow Wilson.
