If a firm invests amount P0 at an interest rate of r%, then a year later invests amount P1 at the same rate, then the total am

ount at the end of two years is given by the formula = P0(1+r)^0.5 + P1(1+r). A firm invests $1000, then a year later invests an additional $2400. At the end of two years, it has a total of $3623. What is the interest rate?

Answer:

interest rate = 5.01%

Explanation:

a (1+r)^{2} + b (1+r) = c

p0= a = 1000

p1= b = 2400

amount = c= -3623

rate = ?

Because the first amount is investment for a period of 2 years, and the second 1 year, we can solve for rate using the quadratic equation:

x = \frac{ - b +/- \sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac} }{2a}

1000 (1+r)^{2} + 2400 (1+r) = 3623

1000 (1+r)^{2} + 2400(1+r) - 3,623 = 0

A = 1000

B = 2400

C = -3623

x = \frac{ - 2400 \sqrt{2400^{2} - 4*1000*-3623} }{2*1000}

x1 = 1.0501111083677623

x2 = -3.4501111083677625

We use the positive root:

x1 = 1.0501111083677623 = (1+r)

1.0501111083677623 - 1 = r = 0.0501111 = 5.01%

EDIT several problems with the math tool but kind of worked

During its first year of operations, Silverman Company paid $12,385 for direct materials and $10,600 for production workers' wag
Bingel [31]

Answer:

Finished goods inventory final balance= 12, 495

Explanation:

PRODUCTION COST COMPONENTS

  • Direct materials 12,385
  • Direct work 10,600
  • Lease and utilities 9,600

TOTAL PRODUCTION COST = 32,585

TOTAL UNITS PRODUCED = 6,650

UNIT COST= (Total Production Cost / Total Units Produced) = 32,585 / 6,650 = 4.9

FINAL GOODS INVENTORY = (Total Units Produced – Total Units Sales) = 6,650 – 4,100 = 2,250

FINAL GOODS INVENTORY AMOUNT = (Final goods Inventory * Unit Cost) = 2,250 * 4.9 = 12,495

Would it be possible for a company to report negative free cash flow and still be highly valued by investors; that is, could a n
Firlakuza [10]

Answer:

Yes, a negative free cash flow can be viewed optimistically by some investors depending on what they are looking for.

Explanation:

A negative free cash flow refers to inability of the business to generate enough cash flow.

This could be seen at face value as a disadvantage but an investor will check the books to know why and that will help to make a more informed decision.

Some companies start out acquiring infrastructure, setting up internal structures, human resources and internal workings of the organization years before proper sales that attract consistent cash flow starts to trickle in.

This pre-operating and initial operating expenses does not reflect well on paper thereby giving a negative free cash flow.

An investor would be optimistic about investing in a company of this sort that has put in place the right conduit to generate and sustain massive cash flow in the nearest future.
