This is excerpt is taken from the play : “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, the first Act.

This is all about the courtship between Beatrix and signor Benedict. Always they engage in a war of wits, they insult each other with jokes, sarcasm and irony. They are intellectually very well matched so they enjoy this verbal clashing very much. This ‘merry war’ gives the play an interesting and entertaining angle.

The quotation "a merry war betwixt" refers to the way Benedict and Beatrice fight a duel of words each time they meet.

Both insult one another through jokes and puns, in an intelligent way, using irony and sarcasm, that have the objective to irritate the opponent. This competition seems to amuse them.

Benedict and Beatrice look like they hate one another, but Shakespeare uses his talent to show the psychological aspects of these characters, making the audience notice that, although the young couple cannot see it, they love each other.

(link attached) What is meant by the last line of the text? How did the Maginot Line serve as an example of this saying? Support
NikAS [45]

Hello. You did not enter the line of text to which this question refers. However, when researching your question, I was able to find a question like yours and realized that the line of text you forgot to present was “Generals always fight the last war”.

Answer and Explanation:

The line “Generals always fight the last war” means the existence of a faith that successful attitudes in the past will be equally successful in the present, even though the present and the past are completely different realities. The Maginot line serves as an example for this sentence because it achieved its goal of protecting France from German invasion during the First World War. Because of this success, it was used again as a strategy in the second world war. However, the two wars were very different, as were the German strategies, which meant that the Maginot line was no longer able to provide any protection to France, which was invaded by Germany.

In narration, a motif is any recurring element that is important to the story.

So, from the story, the motif of wishing applies to the major characters in different ways.

For Yoni, he wishes for success, Sergei wishes for a friend, while the goldfish wants freedom.

The similar thing about their wishes is that they want all wish for what will bring satisfaction and contentment to their lives and it is different because they all have different wishes, as no wish is the same.
