The author's tone in The Death of the Hired Man is grim and painful.

Explanation

The Death of the Hired Man is a lengthy poem written by Robert Frost. This poem touches the audience who read this.

The poem shows three characters- Warren- a farmer, his wife- Mary and Silas- an ex-employee of Warren who helped Warren in haymaking session.

But the situation changes when Silas left Warren with his pocket-money.

After a while, Silas comes back but he is changed which the poet refers as a 'miserable sight'.

In the end, Silas falls into the hands of death making the poem a painful experience.
