In July of 1962, the United States found out the the Soviet Union had begun to ship missiles to Cuba. By October 14, there was a report that a ballistic missile on a launching site was seen. President Kennedy announced that on October 22, the United States would create a blockade around Cuba in order to prevent more missiles from entering the island. Other countries inside the blockade zone were Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Bahama Islands and Puerto Rico.
