Thomas Paine (1737–1809) was a radical writer who emigrated from England to America in 1774. Just two years later, early in 1776, Paine published Common Sense, a hugely influential pamphlet that convinced many American colonists that the time had finally come to break away from British rule. The female Indian's name is La Malinche. She is also known for various names such as Malinalli, Malintzin and Dona Marina. She was one of the women slaves that were sold to the Spaniards. She played a great role in the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire by acting as the interpreter of the Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes.
