I would say it negatively impacted the African Americans because they were forced overseas to become slaves on plantations (especially sugar in the Americas), and while being confined on that small ship, diseases spread much faster and many died on board before even reaching their destination. They were also ripped apart and separated from their families and the men were treated cruely and lived/worked in worse conditions than children and women.
