Joshua drake allowed his children to work in textile factories due to his necessities. He worked for only two days in a week and his other means of income were not permanent. So, he thought that everyone in the family should work and whatever they earn would get added to the funds of the family. This way they could meet their own needs.

It was important for him to be employed and earn even though it is limited working hours rather than working for long hours and not having permanent work.
