“She follows tradition, enlisting a Brahmin faith healer who tells her spirits are to blame.” Hope this helps:)

The way the character deals with her husband's illness is greatly affected by the culture she was brought up in. In Indian society, a lot of people trust traditional medicine over modern methods. This is usually due to ignorance, tradition or habit. In this case, the desire to protect tradition leads the character to disregard Western medicine and instead enlist a Brahmin faith healer. He healer ends up telling her that her husband's disease is caused by spirits.
