Nonstandard forms of English imply close relationships and family values

In this passage, the author finds herself talking to her mother and her husband in an almost childish way. He does not notice because he is used to that type of speech and has even used it at times with his wife.

The use of nonstandard English would be a sign of affection and closeness among family members that only people from that close-knit group of people would understand. This does not make nonstandard English exclusive to these groups, but does help these groups share special non-traditional characteristics.
